- Title
Presumed consent: Altruism or a door to abuse?
- Authors
McDonald, Sheena
- Abstract
The author discusses the concerns arising from the proposal of the British government to presume that citizens have given consent to have their organs donated. She relates her experience as a patient suffering from traumatic brain injury in an intensive care unit (ICU). She notes that there is no acute shortage of donated organs in the country. She argues that the proposal opens a way to potential abuse and may threaten many patients' interests.
