- Title
Carrying the Tune: The Personal Reflections of a Traditional Music Popularizer.
- Authors
Croft, Clary
- Abstract
The article presents a keynote address by Clary Croft delivered at the 2008 Canadian Society for Traditional Music (CSTM) conference held in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She talked about her exposures to traditional music as a young musician to being a professional singer. Croft said she learned a lesson from song collector Helen Creighton, particularly when singing a version of a song from her collection. She asserts that as long as she was true to the integrity of the song, she had the right to interpret it in her own way.
