Record number of international trademark applications in 2005.
- Abstract
The article reports that a record number 33,565 international trademark applications were filed with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) under the Madrid system for the international registration of trademarks in 2005. Germany led the list of top filers overall, while China was the leading filer among developing countries. Ernesto Rubio of WIPO noted that the accessions of the U.S. and the European Community were significant factors for increased use of the Madrid Protocol.
