- Title
Phenytoin or levetiracetam for seizure prophylaxis in TBI.
- Authors
Dedea, Larissa
- Abstract
The article compares the anti-epileptic drugs phenytoin and levetiracetam for prophylaxis of seizure in traumatic brain injury (TBI). Levetiracetam is evaluated in few trials to check if it is a better alternative to commonly chosen phenytoin for preventing early and late post-TBI seizures but no significant advantages in outcomes have been found. Levetiracetam is preferable only in cases wherein phenytoin monitoring is absent and issues of drug interaction are concerns.
