- Abstract
The article reviews studies that examine the risk of melanoma and tanning bed use. They conclude that tanning bed use increases the risk of melanoma, basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. The risk of melanoma is equal if not more with UVA beds compared to UVB tanning beds. It recommends tougher legislative bans on the use of tanning beds in the U.S. and urges physician assistants to educate all patients on the dangers of tanning.
