- Title
Irritable bowel syndrome: Relieving the symptoms, and the frustration.
- Authors
Blesse, Laura C.
- Abstract
The article focuses on irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), which is a common but poorly understood disorder in the U.S. Causation theories on the condition include errors in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract motility, alterations in autonomic regulation and increased visceral sensitivity. It adds that fiber supplementation provides a safe and inexpensive treatment. Alternative therapies such as peppermint are also mentioned but have been warned on resorting to such that may worsen the condition.
