- Title
US lowballs CO2 damage costs.
- Authors
Pelley, Janet
- Abstract
The article examines the importance of the social cost of carbon (SCC) in determining the benefits of lower carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in the U.S. The analysis conducted by the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) shows that regulatory impact analyses through SCC estimates could understate climate mitigation's benefits. The government has pegged SCC at 21 dollars per ton of CO2 emitted, but the analysis says that true cost could be nearly three times that amount.
