- Abstract
The article presents comments of the author on the U.S. energy policy with specific reference to the Domenici Energy Policy Act of 2005 signed by President George W. Bush. The law supports alternative and renewable energy sources, increase in tax credits for wind, biomass, landfill gas, and other renewable electricity sources. It supports the use of clean, renewable, geothermal energy and provides a new tax credit for residential solar power systems. It encourages construction of new natural gas pipelines. The Act requires an inventory of off-shore resources, that will open the door for future offshore oil and gas leasing, exploration, and production in areas currently off limits to leasing and drilling. The law supports the placement and development of energy facilities and resources by providing financial incentives and granting new authority to the U.S. Federal Government. It encourages exploration in environmentally sensitive ways. It is opined that the Act's emphasis is on energy, not the environment.
