- Abstract
An essay is presented on the significance of the "Teaching Children to Read" report by the National Reading Panel (NRP) published in 2000. It compares the report to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) checklist to prevent infections, created by doctor Peter Pronovost. It discusses the five components of the report including vocabulary, phonics, and fluency, which are helpful to reduce reading failure risk. It highlights the application of the five components in schools.
