- Title
Private Tragedies? Family Law as Social Insurance.
- Authors
Alstott, Anne L.
- Abstract
An essay is presented on the association between family law and social insurance in the U.S. It explores the two cases, involving Tom and Elma Wilson and Sheldon and Sharon Brown, which demonstrate financial entitlements interdependence in family law and social welfare. It cites the creation of family law scholarship that challenges the public and private distinction of a family in full legal context. It advises to reconsider family law reforms in social insurance and other legal structures.
