- Abstract
As of 25 September 2014, Law 14/2014 of 24 July on Maritime Navigation («LNM») has entered into force, repealing the centenary rules on maritime commerce contained in Book III of the Spanish Code of Commerce, as well as other ancient regulations, such as the 1893 Ship Mortgage Act. While the aim of the LNM is to regulate the main institutions of maritime law, it must be said that it does not contain an overall regulation of this legal field, as other regulations are still applicable. For this reason the same LNM envisages the enactment within the next three years of a Maritime Navigation Code, which would consolidate the LNM and other regulations of the maritime institutions.
