- Abstract
The article presents a study on the impact of diaphragm mass distribution on the analysis of building pounding which was caused primarily by seismic forces. It explains elastic diaphragm-to-diaphragm collisions while considering the total momentum over the length of each diaphragm during collision. It notes the collision force and collision duration expressions and describes the ratio of the axial periods of free vibration of the two diaphragms. It notes that a new parameter is introduced to constitute the plasticity of an inelastic collision between two structures.
