- Abstract
The article offers information on a study which examined the association between childhood factors and risk of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) adjusting for trauma exposure. As stated, PTSD happens after exposure to a potentially traumatic life event and is defined by three symptom clusters, namely, reexperiencing, avoidance and numbing, and arousal. Study subjects were a cohort of children born during a 1-year period between 1972 and 1973 in Dunedin, New Zealand, followed through to age 32. A discussion on the research findings is detailed.
