- Abstract
This article analyzes the specialized translation (ST) courses in tertiary institutions in Hong Kong, China and identifies the problems inherent in teaching these courses. This is done with the intention to improve teaching of ST courses and to provide a reference for other English-Chinese translation programs. The analysis of the course Commercial/Business translation, chosen as an example for illustration, reveals that despite commonalities, differences have also been seen in their course contents, which makes this course hardly comparable across institutions. The analysis has also shown that most programs have preferred formative to summative assessment, that many have opted for mostly or completely continuous assessment in the form of assignments, coursework and presentations.
