- Title
Cell biology: Collagen secretion explained.
- Authors
Stephens, David J.
- Abstract
The article focuses on an enzyme which has been identified to modify the packaging machinery to enclose unusually large proteins, such as collagen. It states the synthesization of the collagen in the endoplasmic reticulum. It is discovered that the enzyme CUL3 KLHL12 adds a single ubiquitin to a small pool of SEC1 molecules which is needed to drive the secretion of the collagen. It notes that ubiquitination of SEC31 molecules facilitates the formation of a large group of proteins.
