- Abstract
A systematic review and meta-analysis by Kobayashi et al. examined the efficacy and safety of mesh non-fixation in laparo-endoscopic repair of groin hernias. The analysis included 25 randomized controlled trials with 3668 patients and found that mesh non-fixation resulted in little to no difference in hernia recurrence risk or chronic postoperative inguinal pain, while improving the return to daily life, operative time, and costs without increasing adverse events. However, the study acknowledged a limitation in the analytical approach used and suggested that using risk differences may provide a more accurate estimate of the recurrence risk. Overall, the research contributes valuable insights to the field of hernia repair and advances our understanding of optimal practices for laparo-endoscopic groin hernia repair.
