- Abstract
Es'ad Erbilî was one of the most influential and well-known Qadiri sheikhs among recent Sufis. His spiritual influence spread far and wide, becoming a center of attraction for thousands. It is also possible to talk about Erbilî as a Sufi poet. This study aims to trace wahdat al-wujud in Erbilî's Diwan, which includes Persian and Turkish poems. Erbilî's diwan is filled with many poems where divine love is a central theme. Also, there are many poems about the love for the Prophet Muhammad. It is possible to see references to the levels of being (divine presences) as suggested by wahdat al-wujud in these poems centering on divine love. For example, a part about oneness (wahdah) contains a reference to the term affirmative oneness (wahidiya), which is one of the levels of being. And some poems state that human longs to return to his own essence and unity in his spiritual journey. The poems that express the love for the Prophet explain the feelings and thoughts based on the Muhammadan reality, a key concept, and a level of being. This study attempted to show that the terms used in Erbilî's poems point to the levels of being in wahdat al-wujud. In addition, it is seen that the ideas expressed in many poems in the diwan are in parallel with wahdat al-wujud school's approach to the reality of existence. The parallels between the underlying way of thinking in Erbilî's poems and the idea of divine presences in the works of the Sufis who follow wahdat al-wujud school, as well as the spirit of unity and enthusiasm observed in Erbilî's poems clearly show us the traces of wahdat al-wujud that this study sought.
