- Abstract
This paper discusses a set of iron objects which was confiscated on the Polish-Belarusian border crossing in Bobrowniki, a small village in the Podlaskie Voivodeship in north-eastern Poland. In 2016, during recent searches conducted by the Polish Custom Service, an abundance of medieval arms and armour contraband was discovered. Among the contraband confiscated at the Bobrowniki border crossing there was a medieval helmet with some remains of a brigandine armour rusted to the inner part of its bowl, three sabres (one with a preserved sabre guard while other two consisted solely of the blades) and five battle-axe heads. These items were handed over to the collection of the Podlaskie Museum in Białystok, Poland. The analysis of the objects confiscated in Bobrowniki gave us a unique chance to improve our knowledge of the process of increasing theft from Eastern European archaeological sites.
