- Abstract
A reflection is sought on some aspects of urban policy promoted by the Bourbons in Madrid in the eighteenth century, based on a case study: the urbanization process of the eastern periphery of the city, as the main example of the modernization project of the city. The urbanization of this sector pivoted on the assumptions that articulated the transformation plans of the city, on the one hand, the improvement of infrastructure works to ensure the conditions of habitability necessary for the enjoyment of citizens and at the same time ensure public order as endorsement of social coexistence and example of enlightened citizenship.
