- Abstract
The article discusses a song book manuscript of Félix Drouillard of Rivière-aux-Canards, Ontario written between 1897-1903, which throws light on the history of the first French settlers in Ontario in 18th century. Topics include new songs listed in the book and first testimonials for both Canada and France; the historical value of songs of oral tradition in French Ontario and the role of poet songwriters in the transmission of this heritage; and literary songs and English songs.
