- Abstract
The article discusses the beginnings of cerebral angiography in the world and in Czechoslovakia. The first cerebral angiography in the world was performed by Portuguese neurologist Egas Moniz in 1927. In Czechoslovakia, isolated from Moniz, the first cerebral angiograms were created in the first Czechoslovak Republic. Despite its revolutionary contribution to diagnostic imaging, the discovery of cerebral angiography was never recognized by the Nobel Committee. The article also highlights the pioneering work of Professor Ján Kňazovický in Košice, who began experimenting with angiography in 1929. The article provides insights into the challenges and procedures involved in early angiography. Although both Moniz and Kňazovický were not awarded the Nobel Prize for their contributions, their work laid the foundation for the development of diagnostic techniques in medicine.
