- Abstract
This article focuses on the process of gathering, editing and printing Quevedo's first prose collections, which were done after his death and financed by booksellers in Madrid. It examines the concept of «collected works» (Todas las obras en prosa) in printed collections in seventeenth century Spain, which was clearly different from the notion of «complete works» developed in the eighteen century. One main feature of Quevedo's first collected works is striking: the way in which a text had circulated --in manuscript or printed edition-- decided the corpus of the collected works. Writings that circulated exclusively in manuscript were excluded from all the editions of Obras en prosa printed in Madrid in the seventeenth century. In spite of their title -- Todas las obras en prosa -- those editions excluded the significant and well know corpus of Quevedo's manuscript writings that circulated widely.
