- Abstract
Wild animals are increasingly exposed to new threats, due to the expansion of agricultural areas and global human expansion, leading to conflicts with humans, which result in economic damage, reduction in the quality and quantity of habitat, uncontrolled increase and extinction of some species. The present work aims to analyze the impact of predation on domestic livestock by Puma concolor based on a case report on urban properties close to small remaining areas of the Atlantic Forest in the municipality of Leopoldina, Minas Gerais. The data was collected during the COVID-19 pandemic, with emphasis on the period of social isolation, and was obtained through the collection of traces (carcasses of preyed animals, photographs, videos, footprints and feces), to help prove the occurrence of P. concolor in the region. There were predation events on the properties, affecting sheep and chickens. The results show the influence of areas on the occurrence of feline species, indicating that the loss, fragmentation of habitat and the complexity of the pandemic crisis have influenced the dispersion of individuals of Puma concolor in urban spaces, previously strictly for human use, resulting in the structuring of their populations in certain regions.
