A literary criticism of the novel "The Shining," by Stephen King, is presented. Topics include the portrayal of caretaker Jack Torrance in the novel, the role of the Overlook hotel and its boiler in the novel, and the role of work in relation to the identity of Jack as a writer. The role of management and ownership as corporate concepts in the novel are addressed.
