The article examines the political aspects of the trial of Jesus Christ as depicted in the Gospel of John. Topics addressed include form-critical techniques developed for the synoptic tradition to the Gospel of John, the position of Mark in relation to the political realities facing Jews and Jewish Christians in the period after 70 C.E., and the political implications of the Johannine trial narrative.
