- Abstract
The optical potentials of interaction of an impinging electron with a multielectron atomic system with a single half-filled subshell are described. The potential components of these potentials are considered in detail in the spin-polarized approximation and in the local spin density approximation. To analyze elastic scattering of electrons from the ground state of Ag and Sb atoms with valence 5 s and 5 p subshells and Mn and Eu atoms with subvalence 3 d and 4 f subshells for a collision energy of 10 eV, the following interaction potentials are calculated: the static potential and the spin exchange, polarization, and absorption potentials. The average optical potential obtained by averaging the spin components is described. The interrelation between the spin-polarized and local approximations is demonstrated. In the latter approximation, the absorption potentials (of the exchange and polarization type) are proposed to be used in the description of elastic scattering from atomic targets with filled subshells.
