- Abstract
Michel Foucault as a central figure of the French post-modernism, characterized by his originality and unique style, often called himself as a product of the modern tradition. His work poses a thorough and original critique which indeed shows his philosophical point of view. Madness was the central topic of his first book, which Foucault considered as a common topic of study. The main aim of the book was to emphasize the issue of the madness's simplicity and its inevitability. The thing that stands out regarding Foucault, is that he always was driven to deal with topics that were labeled as less important in our society, thus it was only natural that he would focus on topics like madness.. His project is aimed in presenting the history of mankind while problematizing the modern forms of knowledge, rationality, institutions and individuality.
