- Abstract
The High Court of Justice of Castilla y León rejected an administrative appeal filed by an individual who requested to breed Mediterranean turtles in the province of Salamanca. The regional administration considered that the species is threatened and only allows breeding in captivity with the aim of reintroducing them into nature within approved conservation programs. The court stated that animals born and raised in captivity are also subject to protection and that the CITES agreement does not prevent stricter measures to protect endangered species. The importance of obtaining the corresponding authorization from the autonomous community is emphasized, even with CITES certificates.
