Shining a little light and a little heat on the issue of EHRs and fraud.
- Authors
Simborg, Donald W.
- Abstract
The article discusses the need for the U.S. Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) to take the lead in determining what changes in electronic medical records (EMR) would reduce fraud and implementing the changes. It mentions a study by the nonprofit Center for Public Integrity on increased Medicare billing with a switch to EMR. It states that the ONC claims the mandate to deal with medical fraud belongs to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Office of the Inspector General.
