- Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the institutionalization principles of managers involved in the management of professional football clubs and the firm performance attitudes of the club. The research was carried out in the descriptive relational scanning model, one of the general scanning models included in the quantitative research methodology. 217 professional football club managers participated in the study. For the purpose of the research, institutionalization principles and firm performance scale were applied to managers. Correlation analysis of the obtained data was made in the SPSS program. According to the findings of the research, it is seen that professional football clubs gain financial success as well as their sportive success, increase the financial and managerial sustainability of clubs, gain gains that can improve their performance, and it is seen that clubs are desired and expected by their internal and external stakeholders. Although there is a perception that the management of professional football clubs increase their management performance while implementing the principles of institutionalization, the limited effect of these management approaches on financial and sportive success is interpreted as an indicator of the goal of institutionalization to legitimize themselves through similarity with each other rather than the aim of achieving sportive success. As a result; Clubs think that they are institutionalized by showing a tendency to resemble each other with the isomorphism approach in institutional theory. However, even though clubs think they are institutionalized, their financial situation is at a loss, which reveals that they do not fulfill the institutionalization principles. In order to increase the financial and sportive success of the clubs, it is considered that an economic organization should decisively implement the principles of institutionalization, away from personalities, with a professional corporate management approach.
