- Abstract
The author reflects on the complexities of navigating specialist knowledge and skills by stoma care nurse (SCN) to facilitate patient need to adapt to stoma surgery. He cites nurse's need for expert knowledge and experience, intuition and insight and advanced communication skills to practice as a specialist thus highlighting the need for new pedagogy for specialist practice to inform education. He notes the importance of emotional intelligence of a specialist nurse to professional fulfillment.
