- Abstract
The article identifies parental concerns about the sexuality education of their young children. The article emphasizes the importance of the family's influence on the sexual health of children. It is opined that positive sex-related interaction patterns in everyday life are important to healthy family sexuality. Empirical evidences suggest that adolescents whose parents communicated openly with them about sexuality feel much more comfortable discussing sexual topics with their parents and are more likely to make personal decisions about sexual behavior. However most parents are reluctant to discuss sexuality matters with their children primarily because they fear that knowledge of sexuality will cause premature participation in sexual behavior. Parents shed their responsibility they feel for the sexuality education of their children because they are uncomfortable with their own sexuality or are uncertain about what children need at different ages. It is apparent that a lack of knowledge of sexuality and what is normal and/or acceptable at various ages is of concern to these parents.
