- Abstract
The transfer of culture, which is the accumulation of material and spiritual heritage that makes a community a nation, to future generations is essential for the preservation of the survival of nations. This transfer is carried out through various means. One of the most important means of cultural transmission is education, which is given through a number of lessons in schools in a planned manner. The social studies course is among the primary courses used for culture transfer. For this reason, prospective teachers who will be the teachers of this course in the future should have a proper understanding of the concept of culture. This study, which was conducted in order to evaluate the concept of culture from the point of view of social studies teacher candidates, was conducted using a qualitative method. The participant group of the research consisted of 16 social studies teacher candidates who were receiving education at all grade levels. The data obtained by conducting a semi-structured interview were analyzed by descriptive analysis method. From the findings obtained, it was concluded that the participants had a proper understanding of the concept of culture.
