- Abstract
Malignant mesothelioma (MM) is a recognised neoplasm which can be diffuse or can rarely present as a localised mass. Cytological diagnosis is a challenge and three morphological subtypes—epithelioid, sarcomatoid, and biphasic—are recognised. Rarely MM can present as a gastric mass with diffuse peritoneal spread and ascites, posing a diagnostic dilemma. Cell block and immunohistochemical stains are critical for establishing the diagnosis by fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC).
