- Abstract
This paper presents the results obtained in the description of the rhetoric and argumentative skills in the rights of petition lodged by students in a university in Antioquia, collected in 2019. Therefore, current syllabi of reading and writing first-year courses in this university´s academic programs were analyzed, and 31 meaningful rhetoric and argumentation references were revised. Thus, 6 theoretical categories were identified, and they were constructed based on the authors proposed in the analyzed syllabi. Then, some textual, stylistic and discursive aspects of 40 rights of petition lodged by these students were described by means of a rubric validated in previous researches. Finally, the theoretical categories in the analyzed rights of petition were evidenced. Moreover, some potentialities in textual and stylistic aspects were identified but with meaningful discursively restrictions.
