- Title
(Re)Mapping Worlds: An Indigenous (Studies) Perspective on the Potential for Abolitionist and Decolonial Futures.
- Authors
Stark, Heidi Kiiwetinepinesiik
- Abstract
This article discusses four books that examine the effects of settler colonialism and Indigenous dispossession. The books emphasize the violence and devastation caused by settler colonialism and how it has shaped nation-states and their narratives. The authors argue for decolonial and abolitionist visions for the future, emphasizing the recognition of Indigenous political authority and the restoration of Indigenous relationships with the land. The books also explore the role of settler memory in legitimizing settler claims to land and erasing Indigenous presence. The article further examines the construction of Indigenous peoples as terrorists and the importance of political memory and solidarity in envisioning a decolonial and liberatory future.
