- Title
The Devil in the Details of Cuban Antislavery Narrative: Félix Tanco y Bosmeniel's "Petrona y Rosalía."
- Authors
Williams, Claudette
- Abstract
This article discusses antislavery ideas in Cuban literature. An example of one of the earliest expressions of antislavery is the short story "Petrona y Roaslía," by Cuban author Félix Tanco y Bosmeniel. Tanco's story is considered by many to be the first published piece of antislavery literature in Cuba. The story was effective in the sense that it not only portrayed the ill treatment of slaves, but also exposed the corruption and immorality of the sugar-planting elite.
