- Title
Understanding how S uberis causes mastitis.
- Abstract
The article focuses on a study which determined some of the components of Streptococcus uberis (S. uberis), the key bacterium in bovine mastitis. Researchers from the universities of Nottingham and Oxford and the Institute for Animal Health discovered that S. uberis uses an enzyme known as SrtA to anchor on its surface the proteins that cause the disease. Lead researcher James Leigh commented on their discovery of an element of a culprit in bovine mastitis which could lead to a vaccine in the future.
