- Title
Samson Agonistes, Charles II, and Restoration Delilahs.
- Abstract
The author presents a literary criticism of John Milton's tragic closet drama "Samson Agonistes," with particular focus on its relation to the 17th century reign of King Charles II of England. Topics discussed include the reputation of former King Charles I and his relationship to his son, Charles II, the way the character of Samson in the drama may be compared to the image of Charles II, and the uncertainty over the composition and precise publication of "Samson Agonistes."
