- Abstract
Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are chronic intestinal disorders of unknown etiology. Immune system, genetic factors and enviromental factors are involved in pathogenesis of Crohn disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC). Clinical symptoms are various, nonspecific and often resemble those of other conditions especially in the first stadium of the disease, which may cause problems with proper diagnosis of IBD. From twenty five to thirty percent of patients with inflammatory bowel disease have at least one of its extraintestinal symptoms, which can sometimes appear earlier than intestinal disorders.
