- Title
FORHT AND FÆGEN IN THE WANDERER AND RELATED LITERARY CONTEXTS OF ANGLO-SAXON WARRIOR WISDOM.
- Authors
Gwara, Scott
- Abstract
The article discusses a Stoic context of apatheia proposed by Thomas D. Hill and explores the three routes by which Stoicism and apatheia might have been transmitted to Anglo-Saxon poets. The difference between the notions of modern world happiness and its equivalent in the contemporary world is examined. The article also presents a background of the origin of the restraint to Stoicism, citing a work by Christian philosopher Boethius.
