The article focuses on the case of a 59 year old woman with a history of metastatic breast cancer who was admitted to a hospital for treatment of bone pain with narcotics and dexamethasone and then had a sudden reduction of her level of consciousness. A discussion of diagnostic tests that were performed on the woman and resulted in a diagnosis of a perforated sigmoid colon is presented.
