- Abstract
Amsterdam has become the 26th city, and the first EU capital, to sign the Plant Based Treaty, joining other cities around the world in recognizing the importance of addressing the climate crisis through food production and consumption. The treaty aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and land use associated with animal agriculture, promote plant-based diets, and incentivize a plant-based food system. Amsterdam is striving to have 60% of its residents' protein intake come from plant-based sources by 2030. The treaty is non-binding but represents a public acknowledgment of the issue.
