- Abstract
The article looks at the factors that influence news coverage of transborder issues and events in the Ferghana Valley, Central Asia. It offers an overview of the Ferghana Valley, which is described as the most politically and diplomatically volatile area in formerly Soviet region. It examines the role of religious conservatism in attitudes toward the press. The failue of the news media to adequately trans-border issues due to governmental constraints is discussed.
