- Abstract
Proleptonchoides southindiae Ferris et al., 1979 is described based on three populations comprising large number of females collected from the Western Ghats, India and one population comprising three females and a male from Porto-Novo, Benin. New morphological and morphometric data are provided, along with light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and first description of its male. A comparison of present populations with type population as well as Proleptonchoides equistylus Dhanam and Jairajpuri, 1999 is made and P. equistylus is regarded as a junior synonym of P. southindiae. The male is characterized by 1.1 mm long body, 31.5 μm long spicules and three irregularly spaced ventromedian supplements. The diagnosis of the genus Proleptonchoides is amended.
