- Authors
Wei He; van Heuven, Vincent J.
- Abstract
The article discusses the comparison between the Chinese and American English monophthongs in the U.S. It states that the Chinese-accented English vowels are different from the native English tokens in acoustic terms and are closer to British English or received pronunciation (RP) or standard American English. It notes that Mandarin speakers stress the duration feature of tense-lax pairs. It also mentions that the female gender has more advantage in learning language.
