- Abstract
This article provides a comprehensive review of existing guidelines for the treatment of alopecia areata (AA) and highlights the lack of guidance on the use of Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors, which have shown promising results in recent studies. The article emphasizes the need to update guidelines to incorporate the use of JAK inhibitors, as they have demonstrated excellent efficacy and a favorable risk-benefit profile. The recent approval of oral baricitinib for adult patients with AA represents a significant milestone in AA treatment. The study was supported by grants from the National Research Foundation of Korea and the SNUH Research Fund, and the authors declare no conflicts of interest.
