Hâlis lived in mid-19th century but his birthdate, date of death and place of death is unknown. By taking some of his poem into consideration his birthdate is estimated between 1778-1780. His works are mostly on religious, didactic and history. His birthplace is Seyram, it was believed that he is a descendant of Ahmet Yesevi. Even though he wrote most of his works in Fergana he is mostly known as Tashkendi or Shashi (old name of Tashkent). Kitab-i Shehidan consists of 88 sheets and 46 topics. Its copies in Turkey and Uzbekistan are quite voluminous, beautifully written with plain language. Kitab-i Shehidan is shaped around the actions, struggles, travels, expeditions, and activities of İmam-i Shah-i Cerir, and the poems he recited regarding to an event or a context. It is understood that the person described as İmam-i Shah-i Cerir, is the chieftain the Yemenite Becile tribe Ebu Amr Cerir b. Abdillah b. Cabir el-Beceli (date of death 51/671).
