- Abstract
The supervisor-student relationship has always been a core issue of postgraduate education, and thinking about what is a good supervisor and how to be a good supervisor has always been the key to this issue. In order to further explore the formation and development path of a good supervisor-student relationship, this study adopts the grounded theory to explore the relevant factors of a good supervisor in the mind of postgraduate students. Based on this, a theoretical model rooted in the source data is constructed. The results show that there are significant stages and changes in postgraduate students’ understanding of the standard of a good supervisor, and they will constantly adjust their cognition according to their learning stage and their own needs. When their periodic needs are met, they think he/she is a good supervisor. The conclusion of this study responds well to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory, and effectively extends the application of the theory in postgraduate education.
