- Abstract
The article discusses the relationship between lyric poetry and music through how they intersect in the 17th century English lute song "Weep You No More, Sad Fountains" by John Dowland. It is suggested that the musical voices' presence that changes the listeners' understanding of the poet's function. How the lyric speaker demonstrates the effect that music can have on lyrics in the poetic structure is noted. It is argued that musical content complicates lyrics because music allows different interpretations of the text to occur simultaneously without one interpretation preferred over the others.
